Into the Fire

by Elizabeth Martin

The weather is cold and wet here again. Cold, slushy rain is pouring from the sky. Makes me want to escape to the South. It doesn’t even have to be warm, just sunny! Since that isn’t possible right now, I settled for the next best thing! I built the first fire of the season in the fireplace tonight. Not just any fire either, a roaring and blazing fire. Now I am too hot, but it sure is pretty to look at!

Fires have a tendency to do that to us. It takes lots of skill to make just the right size fire…rarely does it ever happen in our house! Go crack the door for a minute or two. I bet it smells wonderful though.

I love the sound of a crackling fire almost as much as the smell. I’m sad to say we’ve probably made a fire in the fireplace 5 times since we’ve lived here. :(
